Tudi Miao, The Peaceful Baby
"Pink Mindset and Lemon Ears" is a sculptural dialogue between Bulgarian artist Lora Nestorova and Ecuadorian artist José Cobos. Using a contemporary adaptation of the Surrealist “cadavre exquis,” each sculpture is built “blind”—in three sections: head, torso, and legs—with each artist responding only to the cues left by the other at the joints. Tudi Miao: The Peaceful Baby is an exploration of inner stillness and purity. • Head (José): During meditation, I perceived my head not as a physical body part, but as a sacred space—a temple. I drew inspiration from the Tudi Miao (Earth God temples) found throughout China, miniaturizing this architectural sanctuary to sit atop the figure. • Torso (Lora): Inspired by the form of an infant, representing a state of absolute purity—a mind that remains clean and peaceful, as yet uninfluenced by the external world. • Legs (José): While a bird in flight is often hunting or escaping, a bird perched on a rock represents total stillness. These eagle-like legs hold a small sphere in their talons, symbolizing the concentrated energy achieved through deep meditation.
